CNURA Government sees Agriculture as important mechanism to economic growth
Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua hail CNURA government concern on the importance about agriculture to economic growth.
In a statement he said CNURA Government sees agriculture as an important area that needs to be developed with revenues deriving from it helping the national economy to grow stronger.
Prime Minister said Agriculture Sector does not only mean growing food crops, coconut and cocoa, it also means growing oil palm and breeding livestock, cattle, chickens, pigs, goats and other economic driven activities.
He added said the CNURA Government has aspired to see the increased of oil palm projects to the Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited further to other upcoming oil palm projects.
“I am happy to say the progress on the two National Oil Palm Projects at Aulutua and Waisisi in Malaita Province is progressing though slowly but surely” PM say.
Hon Sikua said the development progress on the Auluta Oil Palm Development Project was between 4000 and 5000 hectares that already been surveyed with Perpetual Estates being made available through the process.
However, the process could not be finalized until after an oil palm meeting being scheduled for March 4th for it endorsement, before the interested investors could be allowed to express their interest in investing in the Auluta Oil Palm Development Project.
For Waisisi Oil Palm Development Project the team still on the process of surveying the land whiles the tasks should be finished within the next six months before the ground breaking would commence he said.
Prime Minister said CNURA Government was keen to see the two oil palm projects to get off the ground as soon as practicable, because it would input revenue in the country as well provide jobs for Malaita people.
Meanwhile Prime Minister said hopefully that by the middle of the year, tangible activities should take place on the ground.
