PM LILO WELCOMES LATEST NO CONFIDENCE MOTION
Newly elected Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has welcomed a new motion of no confidence against him just two days after his election.
Leader of Opposition Dr Derek Sikua has served a notice of the motion to the Speaker of Parliament yesterday claiming pressure from Civil Society Groups.
Prime Minister Lilo, however, openly welcomed the motion during his first Press Conference yesterday.
“Bring it on. We can face them on the floor of Parliament,” he said with full confidence.
Prime Minister Lilo was elected with a clear majority of 29 votes from the 49 Members of Parliament on Wednesday.
Speaker of Parliament, Sir Allan Kemakeza confirmed receiving the notice from Opposition Leader, Dr Derek Sikua yesterday.
The notice which was attached with copies of statements from the Peoples Power and Malaita Ma’asina Forum was submitted to the Clerk and Parliament’s lawyer to study before consideration.
Meanwhile, PM Lilo described Wednesday’s violent protest as politically motivated.
He believed some of his friends were behind the protest by using ignorant citizens to get involved in this severe violent way.
Lilo said these same people made allegations against him twice in the past in the National General elections.
He said it’s time the country must have a Government that put the interest of the people first.
Parliament will resume next Wednesday after PM Lilo moved a special adjournment in a short meeting yesterday morning.
This was to allow the Prime Minister to name his cabinet ministers.
