Foreign access fees from foreign fishing vessels will more than double for Solomon Islands in the nest three years as a direct result of the establishment of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) Secretariat.

Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources Nollen Leni made the revelation during the handing over of the new NZ$ 2.7 million (SBD$16m) Ministry of Fisheries building by the New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully on Friday last week at the Panatina seashore premises.

The Ambassador of the Republic of China (ROC), Taiwan, HE George Chan had formally released the first payment of SB$10 million for the ‘2010 Rural Constituency Development Fund (RCDF)’ covering 50 constituencies in Honiara today.

Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua formally received documents of the payment at a brief handover ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Ambassador Chan said Taiwan fully supported the Solomon Islands Government in implementing its rural advancement policy.

The Minister of Agriculture and livestock Development, Selwyn Riumana today has informed the new Malaysian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Her Excellency Madame Blanche Olbery on the status of Oil Palm Development in Solomon Islands.

In a brief presentation, Mr Riumana told the visiting diplomat of investment opportunities in the Oil Palm Industry where Malaysian Companies could invest in.

Malaysia is one of the leaders in the Oil Palm Industry in the world.

Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua hail CNURA government concern on the importance about agriculture to economic growth. 

In a statement he said CNURA Government sees agriculture as an important area that needs to be developed with revenues deriving from it helping the national economy to grow stronger.

Prime Minister said Agriculture Sector does not only mean growing food crops, coconut and cocoa, it also means growing oil palm and breeding livestock, cattle, chickens, pigs, goats and other economic driven activities.
